Counselling / psychotherapy is a way of addressing problems by talking them through with someone who is able to be supportive, but who is not directly involved in the situation.

Counselling provides a regular time and space for you to talk in confidence about whatever is troubling you. It will help you to explore and understand your difficulties, in an environment that is dependable and non-judgmental. Counselling will support you in trying to find ways of managing your difficulties more effectively.

Counsellors work with you over a short or long term to help you bring about effective change or enhance your wellbeing.

Although it may sometimes be appropriate to offer advice or guidance, the emphasis in counselling is very much on enabling you to achieve change rather than telling you what to do.
